CASE STUDY: Global Investment Bank uses Office Farm as Showcase for Sustainability Initiatives

OBJECTIVES

A global investment manager has a company-wide sustainability focus. They wanted sustainability initiatives in the office that reflected this focus and their ESG investment activities, beyond this they wanted it to provide a visible showcase of their commitment. The goal was to develop a space where the office could grow their own produce to supply the on-site catering kitchen with low food-mile, highly nutritious food. While also creating a visible and experiential environment where their staff could engage with sustainable growing practices.

SOLUTION

An initial installation of 2 Farmstands was such a success, that within a few months, the farm was expanded to 8 Farmstands. With their plant-based focused menu, this also enabled the dining operation to have access to the lowest food-mile, nutrient-rich produce, reducing the carbon footprint and presenting a sustainability story that all of the client’s team could enjoy every day.

RESULTS

1. Showcasing sustainability

Strategically placing the Farmstands in the office canteen area established a focal point for employees and visitors to visually track the journey of their food, effectively illustrating the sustainable food practices integral to the canteen operations.

2. Low-Food-Mile Catering Ingredients

The produce cultivated on the Farmstands became a reliable source of low-food-mile ingredients, lowering the carbon footprint and providing chefs with a diverse range of unique and sought-after ingredients.

3. Engaged Employees

Harvest events have increased employee awareness regarding sustainable food practices, creating a space for learning and fostering sustainable habits beyond the workplace. Additionally, the initiative's success has earned us an invitation to contribute to its annual sustainability fair, with positive engagement from every business level.
